Our "Bloom or Bust" Promise

Named after the vibrant Australian city, this tulip's warm, sunset colours perfectly capture the feeling of a Brisbane evening.

A truly flamboyant showstopper, Tulip 'Brisbane' is an opulent double fringed variety that erupts into a breathtaking fiery sunset of colour, demanding attention in the mid to late-spring garden. Each substantial, peony-like bloom is a masterpiece of natural art, packed with layers of lush, velvety petals that blend the richest tones of raspberry, sun-ripened apricot, and glowing golden yellow. The real magic, however, lies in its exquisite detailing: every single petal is edged with a delicate, crystalline fringe that looks as if it's been dipped in sugar, catching the sunlight and sparkling with every breeze. These incredibly full and textured blooms sit atop strong, reliable stems, making them not just a luxurious centrepiece for any garden bed or border, but also an outstanding and long-lasting choice for opulent spring bouquets and arrangements. Plant 'Brisbane' to create a bold statement of warmth and extravagance.

Where to Plant:

This is an incredibly flamboyant and showy fringed tulip, with large, peony-like double flowers in shades of fiery orange and yellow, with each petal edged in a fine, crystalline fringe. The enormous, heavy flower heads make it absolutely essential to plant them in a very sheltered position, protected from strong winds and heavy rain which can easily cause the stems to break. They need a spot in full sun with fertile, very well-drained soil. They are best used as a feature plant in a container or a prime spot in a border.

How to Plant:

Tulip bulbs should be planted late in the autumn, ideally during October or November, to help prevent the fungal disease Tulip Fire. It is vital to plant the bulbs deeply to support the heavy flowers; dig a hole at least 15-20cm (6-8 inches) deep. Place the bulb in the bottom with its pointed tip facing upwards and cover with soil. Space the bulbs about 15cm apart to give each magnificent flower room to open.

Aftercare:

For the most spectacular and reliable display, fancy tulips like this are best treated as annuals and replaced with fresh bulbs each autumn. They are not known for re-flowering well in subsequent years. If you wish to try and save them, you must deadhead the flower as soon as it fades. Allow the foliage to die back and yellow completely before lifting the bulbs, drying them, and storing them somewhere cool and dark until it is time to replant.
