Our "Bloom or Bust" Promise

Blue Diamond, often admired for its purple colouring, is a bulb variety especially well suited to borders.

Tulipa 'Blue Diamond' is a decidedly refined Double Late tulip, opening in a deep, velvety purple and softening to handsome grey-silver nuances as the blooms mature. The flowers are generously petalled with a quietly luxurious presence—particularly effective in smart pots, or threaded through spring borders where richer tones are welcome.

For best results, plant in a sunny, sheltered position in fertile, well-drained soil, and avoid winter waterlogging. At around 40cm tall, it brings polished structure to late spring planting schemes without ever feeling showy.

  • Colour progression: rich purple, ageing to grey-silver tones
  • Form: Double Late (double flowers) with an elegant, full finish
  • Best for: pots & containers, and spring borders

Where to Plant:

Tulipa 'Blue Diamond' (tulip 'Blue Diamond) needs full-sun and a warm, sheltered position for the best flowering. Plant into fertile, humus-rich soil that drains well, and choose a spot protected from strong winds, especially for taller varieties.

How to Plant:

Plant bulb from September to December once conditions are suitable. Set them at the correct depth for the variety, spacing 10-15cm apart where relevant, then firm in gently and water well after planting.

Aftercare:

Water regularly in dry weather and feed every two to three weeks once buds appear. Stake taller stems early and deadhead to keep plants flowering. After flowering, allow foliage to die back naturally before lifting or protecting bulb according to local conditions.
