Our "Bloom or Bust" Promise

Angelique' is often called the "rose" of the tulip world and was voted the "Tulip of the Year" in the Netherlands, a high honour in the home of tulips!

An enduring favourite and for good reason, 'Angelique' is the picture of romance. Its delicate, peony-like blooms are a soft confection of pale pink, ivory, and blush, with subtle green markings on the exterior. The flowers are sweetly fragrant and held on strong stems, making them a dream for both the garden and the vase. 'Angelique' brings a gentle, classic elegance to the late spring garden that pairs beautifully with almost any other plant.

Where to Plant:

A much-loved and romantic variety, 'Angelique' is a double late tulip with large, fragrant, peony-like flowers of a beautiful soft rose-pink, fading to paler pink at the edges. Its heavy blooms can be damaged by wind and rain, so a sheltered spot is recommended. Plant it in a position that receives full sun in a fertile, well-drained soil. It is a superb choice for planting in bold groups in a border and is particularly wonderful in containers where its form and scent can be enjoyed up close.

How to Plant:

The bulbs should be planted late in the autumn, during October or November. Dig a generous hole and plant each bulb at least 15cm (6 inches) deep, or about twice the height of the bulb itself. Deeper planting can help to encourage the bulb to return in subsequent years. Place the bulb with the pointed tip facing the sky and space them about 10-15cm apart to create a full display.

Aftercare:

After the beautiful flowers have faded, snap off the spent head to prevent it forming a seed pod. It is essential to allow the foliage to die back completely and turn yellow and straw-like before removing it; this period of about six weeks is when the bulb builds up energy for next year. 'Angelique' has a better chance of perennialising than many double tulips if it is planted deeply in a sunny, well-drained spot.
