Purple, often admired for its purple colouring, is a corm variety especially well suited to containers.

With its sumptuous, fully double blooms in deep purple tones, Ranunculus ‘Purple’ brings a certain evening richness to spring and early summer displays. Each flower is neatly rose-like, held on upright stems above fresh, mid-green foliage—particularly striking in pots on a sunny terrace or in a sheltered border where the light can catch the petals.

A splendid choice for the cutting garden, too: pick just as the buds begin to loosen for elegant stems to enjoy indoors. For best results, plant into free-draining soil in a bright, sheltered position and avoid winter wet.

Where to Plant:

Ranunculus 'Purple' needs full-sun, partial sun and a warm, sheltered position for the best flowering. Plant into fertile, humus-rich soil that drains well, and choose a spot protected from strong winds, especially for taller varieties.

How to Plant:

Plant corm from September to December once conditions are suitable. Set them at the correct depth for the variety, spacing 10–15cm apart where relevant, then firm in gently and water well after planting.

Aftercare:

Water regularly in dry weather and feed every two to three weeks once buds appear. Stake taller stems early and deadhead to keep plants flowering. After flowering, allow foliage to die back naturally before lifting or protecting corm according to local conditions.
