Ornithogalum umbellatum (Star-of-Bethlehem) is a quietly charming spring bulb, prized for its neat, star-shaped flowers—clean white on the face with a discreet green reverse. It slips beautifully into gravel gardens, the front of borders and natural-style planting, where it forms tidy clumps and returns year after year.
At a modest 15–30cm, it is particularly useful for softening edges and weaving through other spring bulbs without fuss. Plant in autumn and allow the simple elegance of its April–May display to do the rest.
