Where to Plant:

As a tender bulb, Narcissus 'Paperwhite' is grown exclusively indoors for winter flowering. Choose a bright spot that receives plenty of indirect sunlight, such as a cool windowsill. They can be grown in a pot with drainage using potting mix, or decoratively in a watertight bowl or vase using only pebbles and water.

How to Plant:

Paperwhites are unique as they don't require soil. Forcing in Water: Fill a shallow, watertight bowl with a layer of pebbles or glass beads. Place the bulbs close together on top and add more pebbles to hold them in place, leaving the top half of the bulbs exposed. Add water until it just touches the base of the bulbs—do not let the bulbs sit in water. Forcing in Soil: Alternatively, plant in a pot with drainage holes using potting mix. Place bulbs closely together with their pointed tips just peeking above the soil and water thoroughly once.

Aftercare:

Place the container in a cool room until shoots are 1-2 inches tall, then move to a bright windowsill. Keep the water level at the base of the bulbs (for water forcing) or the soil lightly moist. Rotate the container regularly to ensure straight stems. As Paperwhites use all their energy to flower, they will not bloom again and should be added to the compost heap after the display is over.
