Cyclamineus daffodils are named after the Cyclamen flower, which also has sharply swept-back petals. This reflexed form gives them a unique, dynamic and alert appearance.

A diminutive and exceptionally elegant variety, 'Snipe' is a beautiful Cyclamineus daffodil with a distinctive, windswept appearance. The exquisite flowers feature a crown of pure white petals that are sharply swept back (reflexed) from the cup, like wings in flight. The trumpet is long, slender, and gracefully proportioned, opening a soft lemon-yellow and maturing to a lovely creamy white. This RHS Award-winning heirloom variety blooms early in the season on short stems, making it perfect for brightening up the front of borders. Its delicate, poised beauty makes it a favourite among discerning gardeners who appreciate a more refined and graceful daffodil form.

Where to Plant:

A wonderfully elegant and early-flowering miniature daffodil, 'Snipe' is a classic Cyclamineus hybrid. It is known for its distinctive flowers which have strongly swept-back, pure white petals and a long, graceful, pale yellow trumpet that fades to cream. Its small stature makes it perfect for rock gardens, the front of borders, pots, and for naturalising in lawns or under deciduous trees. It thrives in sun or partial shade in moist but well-drained soil.

How to Plant:

You should plant the small bulbs in the autumn, from September to November. As they are smaller than standard daffodils, a planting depth of about 10cm (4 inches) is sufficient. Place the bulb in the hole with the pointed tip facing the sky. To appreciate their windswept charm, they are most effective when planted in generous, informal drifts. Space them about 8-10cm apart to allow them to multiply into a good-sized colony.

Aftercare:

This is a very low-maintenance and rewarding daffodil. The most important rule is to let the grassy foliage die back completely on its own for at least six weeks after flowering has finished before you mow or tidy the area. This is essential for the bulb to build up the energy reserves needed to return and flower again the following spring. It will happily multiply where conditions are suitable.
