This variety is a direct descendant of the famous double daffodil 'Acropolis', inheriting its full, ruffled form but with a warmer colour palette and a more pronounced, sweet fragrance.

A delightful and romantic double daffodil, 'Fragrant Spring' is designed to delight the senses. The large, peony-like blooms are packed with layers of ruffled petals. The outer petals are a soft, creamy primrose-yellow, framing a beautifully full and frilly centre of warm clementine-orange and apricot tones. As its name suggests, it releases a wonderful sweet perfume, a fantastic bonus not found in all daffodils. This mid-season variety forms a good clump of slender foliage, with strong stems holding the substantial blooms well. It is a fantastic choice for adding a touch of luxury and scent to borders and is an outstanding cut flower, allowing you to bring its beauty and fragrance indoors.

Where to Plant:

As its name suggests, this daffodil is prized for its beautiful scent, adding another sensory dimension to the spring garden. It typically produces classic, large-cupped flowers perfect for bringing cheerful colour and perfume to any setting. It is a versatile variety that is well-suited to growing in borders, in containers, or for naturalising in grass. For the best flower production and fragrance, choose a spot in full sun or light, dappled shade in any reasonable, well-drained garden soil.

How to Plant:

You should plant the bulbs in the autumn, anytime from September to November. Dig a hole and plant each bulb about 15cm (6 inches) deep, which is roughly twice the height of the bulb itself. Make sure the pointed end is facing the sky. If you are planting in a border, space them about 10-15cm apart to allow them to develop into a healthy clump. Water once after planting to settle the soil.

Aftercare:

This is a low-maintenance and reliable daffodil. Once the flowers have faded, it is good practice to deadhead them by snipping off the flower head before it can produce a seed pod. The most important rule is to let the long, grassy foliage die back on its own for at least six weeks after flowering has finished. Do not be tempted to cut it back early, as this is when the leaves are feeding the bulb for next year's performance.
