Grape Hyacinth 'Pink Sunrise' (Muscari)

Where to Plant:

This is a highly unusual and sought-after Grape Hyacinth, prized for its unique, soft pink flower spikes, which are often topped with paler florets. For the best colour and performance, a position in full sun is recommended, though it will tolerate partial shade. It is not fussy about soil type, provided it is well-drained. Due to its delicate colouring, it is perfect for growing in pots and containers, or at the very front of a border where its subtle beauty will not be overlooked.

How to Plant:

The small bulbs should be planted in the autumn, from September to November, for flowers the following spring. Plant them at a depth of about 10cm (4 inches), with the pointed tip facing upwards. To create a meaningful display with its soft colour, it is best to plant them in generous, dense clumps rather than scattering them. Space the bulbs about 5-8cm apart from each other to form a satisfying group.

Aftercare:

This is a low-maintenance bulb. Like many grape hyacinths, it may produce its grassy leaves in the autumn, which is perfectly normal. After the flowers have faded in spring, it is essential to allow the foliage to die back and turn yellow on its own, as this is how the bulb stores energy for the next year's display. It should return each year, forming a larger clump over time.
