Where to Plant:

Hyacinths thrive in a sunny or lightly shaded spot in fertile, well-drained soil. Their strong, upright form is perfect for the front of borders, formal bedding schemes, or patio containers where their heady fragrance can be fully appreciated. Ensure the position is sheltered from strong winds to protect the heavy flower spikes.

How to Plant:

Plant bulbs in autumn, about 10-15cm deep and 15cm apart, with the pointed end facing up. For a natural look, scatter them in drifts rather than planting in straight rows. In pots, you can plant them a little closer together for a fuller display. Always wear gloves when handling hyacinth bulbs as they can cause skin irritation.

Aftercare:

Water well after planting and keep the soil moist during dry spells in spring. Once the flowers have faded, deadhead the stalk but allow the foliage to die back naturally. This process feeds the bulb for the following year's display. In subsequent years, the flowers may be less dense, which creates a more relaxed, natural look perfect for informal gardens.
