Bloom or Bust Guarantee

The architectural flower heads of echinops bring structure to herbaceous borders and remain attractive to pollinators as well as in dried arrangements.

Echinops 'Blue Glow' produces metallic blue globe-shaped flower heads on sturdy stems, bringing strong form and cool colour to sunny borders from high summer onward.

The rounded blooms contrast beautifully with looser planting styles and are excellent for pollinators, while the stems also dry well for lasting arrangements.

Plant in full sun in well-drained soil, including poorer or drier ground where many softer perennials might struggle. Good drainage is especially important in winter.

Water while establishing, but once settled the plant is notably drought tolerant. Remove spent blooms if preferred or leave seedheads standing for structure.

Where to Plant:

Choose a sunny position, or light partial shade where stated, with well-drained but reasonably fertile soil. These hardy perennials suit mixed borders, wildlife planting and naturalistic schemes.

How to Plant:

Plant bare roots into prepared soil in spring with the crown set at soil level and roots spread out naturally. Water in well and mulch around the clump to help retain moisture while plants establish.

Aftercare:

Water during the first growing season and during long dry spells thereafter. Remove spent flowers if you want a tidier display, or leave some seedheads for structure and wildlife where appropriate.
