Warm-toned decorative dahlias are especially useful for extending the richest border colours deep into late summer, when many earlier-flowering plants have already finished.

Dahlia 'Nonette' produces warm coral-apricot blooms with softer salmon tones and subtle darker speckling, bringing a glowing late-summer palette to mixed borders and cutting beds.

The flower colour shifts beautifully in changing light, and the blooms are carried generously over a bushy plant that flowers continuously when picked or deadheaded.

Plant in a sunny, sheltered position in fertile, well-drained soil after frosts, ensuring plenty of organic matter is worked in beforehand.

Keep plants watered in dry weather, remove faded flowers regularly, and lift the tubers in autumn for frost-free winter storage where needed.

Where to Plant:

Choose a sunny, sheltered position with fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. Dahlias thrive in warmth and perform best where they receive plenty of light and good air movement.

How to Plant:

Start tubers under cover in spring or plant out once frosts have passed. Set the crown just below the soil surface, spacing plants well so stems have room to develop. Add support early for taller varieties and improve soil with compost before planting.

Aftercare:

Water regularly in dry spells and feed through the growing season to support repeat flowering. Deadhead often to keep new buds coming, and lift tubers after the first frost in colder areas for frost-free winter storage.
