Our "Bloom or Bust" Promise

Silver Chimes' is a cross between a Triandrus daffodil (which gives it the nodding, multi-headed habit) and a Tazetta daffodil (which gives it its fantastic fragrance).

A classic and exceptionally graceful heirloom, 'Silver Chimes' is a Triandrus/Tazetta hybrid beloved for its beautiful, nodding flowers and sweet perfume. Each slender, elegant stem carries a pendant cluster of up to 10 exquisite, star-shaped blooms. The flowers feature pure white, distinctly swept-back (reflexed) petals that surround a small, shallow, cup-shaped corona of the softest primrose-yellow. This RHS Award-winner is a late-flowering variety that brings a delicate, ethereal beauty to the garden. It is a wonderful perennialiser, forming larger, more floriferous clumps each year. 'Silver Chimes' is perfect for adding a touch of refined elegance to woodland gardens, borders, and pots.

Where to Plant:

This is a beautiful, late-flowering daffodil from the Tazetta group, producing graceful, nodding clusters of up to ten fragrant flowers on each stem. Each bloom has silvery-white petals and a small, creamy-yellow cup. Being a Tazetta type, it appreciates a warm, sunny, and sheltered position to perform at its best. It is an excellent choice for planting in pots on a patio where its scent can be enjoyed, or in a protected border against a warm wall. Well-drained soil is essential.

How to Plant:

The bulbs should be planted in the autumn, ideally in September or October. Dig a hole and plant each bulb at a depth that is roughly twice its own height, which is typically about 15cm (6 inches) deep. Place the bulb in the hole with its pointed tip facing upwards and cover with soil. Space the bulbs about 10-15cm apart to give each multi-headed stem enough room to develop.

Aftercare:

After the perfumed flowers have faded, you can snip off the spent flower heads. The most critical part of their care is to allow the foliage to die back naturally for a minimum of six weeks after flowering. In colder parts of the country, a thick, dry mulch of bark or straw applied in late autumn can provide the bulbs with extra protection from severe winter cold, helping them to perennialize more reliably.
