Our "Bloom or Bust" Promise

Flower Record' has been one of the world's best-selling crocus varieties for over 70 years, a testament to its incredible reliability, vigour, and the timeless appeal of its magnificent purple blooms.

The definitive purple crocus, 'Flower Record' is a world-famous, large-flowered Dutch variety that sets the standard for deep, rich colour. The blooms are a magnificent, single tone of intense, glossy, royal purple. The colour is incredibly saturated and has a beautiful velvety sheen, making the flowers stand out from a great distance. The flowers themselves are large, robust, and goblet-shaped, held on strong stems that stand up well to the variable weather of early spring. It is one of the most widely planted crocuses in the world, prized for its reliability, vigour, and the sheer impact of its powerful, uncomplicated colour. 'Flower Record' holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit, confirming its status as a top performer. It is the perfect choice for creating bold rivers of purple through lawns, for mass planting in borders, or for filling pots with a dazzling splash of regal colour.

Where to Plant:

This is a classic and reliable large-flowered Dutch crocus, producing stunning, deep violet-purple flowers in early spring. It is incredibly versatile and perfect for creating bold drifts of colour at the front of borders, in pots, or for naturalising in lawns and under deciduous trees. To ensure a fantastic display, choose a location that gets full sun or light, dappled shade. Well-drained soil is important as the corms will not tolerate sitting in wet ground over winter.

How to Plant:

The corms should be planted in the autumn, anytime from September to November. Plant each one with the small pointed tip facing upwards, at a depth of 8-10cm (3-4 inches). If planting in a lawn or border for a natural look, the best method is to gently scatter the corms by the handful and then plant them exactly where they land. Ensure there is at least 8cm of space between each corm to allow them to multiply and form dense, impressive clumps.

Aftercare:

Caring for these crocuses is very straightforward. After the beautiful flowers have faded, the most important job is to let the grassy foliage die back completely on its own. If they are growing in a lawn, do not mow the area for at least six weeks after flowering has finished. This allows the plant to photosynthesise and store energy in the corm, which is essential for a healthy display the following year. They require no additional watering once established.
