Our "Bloom or Bust" Promise

The name 'Erlicheer' is a perfect play on words, combining "early" and "cheer," which is exactly what this powerfully fragrant, early-blooming daffodil provides after a long winter.

An absolute delight for the senses, 'Erlicheer' is a celebrated Double Tazetta daffodil famed for its incredible fragrance and abundant blooms. Each strong, upright stem produces a dense cluster of up to 20 small, perfectly formed double flowers, creating a substantial, pom-pom like flower head. The blooms are a lovely creamy-white, with delicate primrose-yellow segments interspersed in the centre, giving a wonderfully full and ruffled appearance. The scent is powerful, sweet, and musky, and a single stem is enough to perfume an entire room. Blooming early in the season, 'Erlicheer' is a popular choice for forcing indoors for a winter treat, as well as being a beautiful and long-lasting feature in a sunny, sheltered garden spot.

Where to Plant:

This is an exceptionally fragrant, multi-headed double daffodil that produces beautiful clusters of small, creamy-white and soft yellow flowers on each stem. Being a Tazetta type, it is not as robustly hardy as common daffodils and requires a warm, sunny, and sheltered position to thrive year after year. It is an ideal choice for planting in pots on a sunny patio, or in a warm, protected border against a house wall where its intense, sweet perfume can be fully appreciated. Well-drained soil is essential.

How to Plant:

The bulbs should be planted in early autumn, ideally in September or October, to allow a long rooting period. Dig a hole and plant each bulb at a depth that is roughly twice its own height, which is typically about 15cm (6 inches) deep. Place the bulb in the hole with its pointed tip facing upwards and cover with soil. Space bulbs about 10-15cm apart. If planting in pots, use a good quality, loam-based compost.

Aftercare:

After the perfumed flowers have faded, you can snip off the spent flower heads. The most critical part of their care is to allow the foliage to die back naturally for a minimum of six weeks after flowering. In colder parts of the country, it is a good idea to apply a thick, dry mulch of bark or straw over the soil in late autumn to provide the bulbs with extra protection from winter cold.
