Where to Plant:

Hyacinths thrive in full sun or light shade in fertile, well-drained soil. Their compact size makes them perfect for the front of borders, patio pots, and window boxes where their intoxicating fragrance can be fully appreciated. For indoor forcing, plant in a pot with bulb fibre. Note: Handling hyacinth bulbs can cause mild skin irritation, so it's a good idea to wear gloves.

How to Plant:

Plant your bulbs from September to December. Dig a hole around 15cm deep and place the bulb inside with the pointed end facing up. Space bulbs approximately 10-15cm apart to give them room to flourish. In containers, you can plant them a little closer for a fuller display. Water well after planting to settle the soil.

Aftercare:

Once flowering is over, deadhead the faded flower spike but allow the foliage to die back naturally. This is crucial as the leaves gather sunlight to create food, strengthening the bulb for the following year's display. For container-grown hyacinths, a feed with a high-potassium fertiliser during leaf growth can be beneficial.
