Our "Bloom or Bust" Promise

The distinctive flame pattern makes it a "broken" or Rembrandt-style tulip, but with the elegant form of a Lily-Flowered variety.

Embodying grace and star power, 'Marilyn' is a striking Lily-Flowered tulip with a uniquely elegant form. It features beautifully slender, vase-shaped flowers whose petals arch outwards at the tips, creating a distinctive pointed star shape. The colour is a clean, pure white, providing the perfect canvas for the dramatic, feathered flame of lipstick-pink to raspberry-red that streaks up the centre of each petal. The effect is both artistic and sophisticated, reminiscent of fine hand-painted porcelain. 'Marilyn' stands on tall, graceful stems that seem to dance in the spring breeze, making it a stunning addition to borders where it can rise above lower-growing plants. It is also an absolutely exquisite and long-lasting cut flower, perfect for creating chic, eye-catching arrangements.

Where to Plant:

A truly elegant and striking lily-flowered tulip, 'Marilyn' has a graceful, vase-shaped flower with pointed, outward-curving petals. The flowers are pure white, each artistically marked with a feathered flame of raspberry-red. For the best display and strong stems, plant it in a position that receives full sun in a fertile, well-drained soil. Its beautiful form and colouring make it a superb choice for borders and containers, and it is an outstanding, long-lasting cut flower.

How to Plant:

The bulbs should be planted late in the autumn, during October or November. Dig a generous hole and plant each bulb at least 15cm (6 inches) deep, or roughly twice the height of the bulb itself. Planting deeply in a sunny, well-drained spot is the key to encouraging it to flower for several years. Place the bulb with the pointed tip facing the sky and space them about 10-15cm apart to create a full display.

Aftercare:

This variety has a good reputation for returning year after year. To help it do so, deadhead the flowers once they have faded by snapping off the head to prevent it setting seed. Allow the foliage to die back completely and turn yellow and straw-like before removing it; this takes about six weeks and is when the bulb builds up its energy for next year. Feeding with a liquid tomato feed after flowering until the foliage starts to yellow can also be very beneficial.
