Our "Bloom or Bust" Promise

Blue Wow' belongs to the Viridiflora group but is so unique with its double centre it's in a class of its own. It's less of a flower and more of a botanical event!

Truly a spectacle, 'Blue Wow' is one of the most unusual tulips you can grow. It begins as a large, green bud which opens to reveal a vibrant purple, peony-like flower bursting from the centre, surrounded by green, leaf-like outer petals. Where to Plant:

A truly weird and wonderful variety, 'Blue Wow' is a double peony-flowered tulip with a unique structure. It has an outer layer of deep violet-purple petals, with a central ruff of smaller, green-flushed petals emerging from the centre. The large, heavy, and complex flowers need a sheltered spot, protected from strong wind and rain. Plant it in a position that receives full sun in fertile, well-drained soil. It is a real novelty flower, perfect for containers or a prominent spot in a border where its strange beauty can be marvelled at.

How to Plant:

The bulbs should be planted late in the autumn, during October or November. It is important to plant them deeply to help support the heavy flowers. Dig a hole at least 15-20cm (6-8 inches) deep and place the bulb in the bottom with its pointed tip facing the sky. Space the bulbs about 15cm apart to give each large flower enough room to develop without being crowded.

Aftercare:

Like most highly complex double tulips, 'Blue Wow' is not reliably perennial and is best treated as an annual for a guaranteed show each year. To try and encourage it to return, you must remove the spent flower head once the petals have fallen. It is then essential to allow the foliage to die back completely, leaving it for at least six weeks after flowering before removing it. Feeding with a liquid tomato feed during this period can also help build up the bulb.
