Our "Bloom or Bust" Promise

The common name 'Pincushion Flower' comes from the prominent stamens that stand up from the centre of the flower head, which look just like pins stuck into a cushion.

An incredibly productive and long-flowering perennial, 'Kudo Pink' is a superb variety of Pincushion Flower that brings a soft, airy charm to the garden for months on end. It forms a neat, low mound of grey-green foliage from which rise a multitude of slender, wiry stems. Each stem is topped with an exquisite, pincushion-like flower head in a beautiful shade of clear, soft pink. A fantastic feature of the 'Kudo' series is its exceptional hardiness and its continuous blooming habit; it will produce a seemingly endless supply of its delightful flowers from late spring right through to the first frosts of autumn. It is an absolute magnet for bees, butterflies, and hoverflies, making it a superb choice for a wildlife garden. Its compact size makes it perfect for the front of a sunny border or for spilling out of containers.

Where to Plant:

A wonderfully floriferous and long-blooming perennial, 'Kudo Pink' provides a continuous display of charming, pincushion-like pink flowers from summer to autumn. It is essential to plant it in a position that receives full sun, as it will become leggy and flower poorly in shade. It prefers a well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil and is not demanding about fertility. It is perfect for adding soft colour to a cottage garden scheme, a mixed border, or a large pot on a sunny patio, and is a magnet for pollinating insects.

How to Plant:

Plant pot-grown specimens in spring or summer. Dig a planting hole that is the same size as the pot, and place the plant inside, ensuring it is planted at the same depth as it was in the pot. Backfill with soil, firm it down gently with your hands, and give the plant a good watering to help it establish. Space individual plants about 30-40cm apart to allow them to form a good-sized clump.

Aftercare:

To keep the flowers coming, you must be diligent with deadheading. As soon as a flower starts to look tatty, follow its stem down to the base of the plant and snip it off. This will promote a constant succession of new flowers throughout the season. The plant is drought-resistant once it has settled in. Cut back the dead foliage in early spring before the new growth appears.
