A bright and cheerful variety of Coneflower, 'Tweety' is notable for its very compact size and large, vibrant flowers. It forms a low, neat, well-branched clump of deep green leaves. From early to late summer, it produces a profusion of sturdy stems, each bearing a large, daisy-like flower. The blooms have long, elegant, bright canary-yellow petals that are held horizontally, surrounding a prominent, greenish-gold central cone. At only around 30-40cm tall, it is much shorter than most other coneflowers, making it an absolutely perfect choice for the front of the border or for planting in containers and patio pots. It is a magnet for bees and butterflies, and if the flower heads are left on, the seed cones provide food for goldfinches in the autumn and winter.
Tweety' is named after the famous yellow cartoon canary, a perfect fit for this plant's compact size and brilliant, clear yellow flowers.

This compact coneflower is perfect for bringing a splash of vibrant, golden-yellow colour to the front of a border or for growing in containers. Like all echinaceas, 'Tweety' demands a position in full sun to produce a profusion of flowers and maintain its sturdy, upright habit. It is essential to plant it in well-drained soil, as it dislikes having its roots in wet ground, especially over winter. It is a fantastic plant for attracting bees and butterflies.
How to Plant:
Plant container-grown specimens in spring or summer. Dig a hole that is the same depth as the pot and roughly twice the width. Gently tease out the roots at the bottom of the rootball and place the plant in the hole, ensuring the crown, where the stem meets the roots, is level with the surrounding soil. Backfill with soil, firm it in gently around the plant, and water it well to settle the roots. Space individual plants about 25-30cm apart.
Aftercare:
Water regularly during its first growing season to help it establish. Once mature, it is reasonably drought-tolerant. Deadheading the spent flowers will encourage the plant to produce more blooms over a longer period. In late autumn, you can leave the final seed heads on the plant as they provide a valuable source of food for goldfinches. To protect the plant, it is best to leave the old stems intact over winter and cut them back to the ground in early spring, just as new growth emerges.
