Our "Bloom or Bust" Promise

The stark contrast between the deep violet body and the brilliant white fringe makes 'Cummins' one of the most easily recognizable and sought-after fringed tulips.

An incredibly striking and deservedly popular variety, 'Cummins' is the definition of garden chic. It features large, elegantly formed, goblet-shaped flowers of a rich and regal violet-purple. This beautiful, saturated colour provides the perfect backdrop for its most dramatic feature: a contrasting, heavily shredded white fringe that edges every single petal. This magnificent fringe is so pronounced it looks as if the entire bloom has been delicately touched by a magical frost, creating an electrifying visual contrast. It is an incredibly sophisticated and eye-catching tulip that never fails to draw compliments and questions from visitors. 'Cummins' is a must-have for those seeking a flower that is both elegant and powerfully dramatic in the mid-spring garden.

Where to Plant:

A truly unique and striking fringed tulip, 'Cummins' has large, cup-shaped, rich violet-purple flowers, with each petal dramatically edged with a contrasting, finely cut, crystalline white fringe. It is a real showstopper and deserves a prime position. It is essential to plant it in a sheltered spot to protect the intricate flowers from wind and rain. It needs full sun and very well-drained soil. It is a superb choice for growing in pots or as a feature in a border where it can be admired up close. It also makes a fantastic cut flower.

How to Plant:

The bulbs should be planted late in the autumn, during October or November. It is important to plant them deeply to help support the stems. Dig a hole at least 15-20cm (6-8 inches) deep and place the bulb in the bottom with its pointed tip facing the sky. Space the bulbs about 15cm apart to give each magnificent flower enough room to show off its unique fringe.

Aftercare:

Like most highly decorative fringed tulips, 'Cummins' is not reliably perennial and is best treated as an annual for a guaranteed show each year. To try and get it to reflower, you must remove the spent flower head once the petals have fallen. It is then essential to allow the foliage to die back completely, leaving it for at least six weeks after flowering before removing it. Feeding with a liquid tomato feed during this period can also help build up the bulb.
