Our "Bloom or Bust" Promise

Queensland' combines two very special traits: the full, multi-petalled look of a double tulip and the textured edge of a fringed tulip, making it doubly special.

A flower of almost unbelievable extravagance, 'Queensland' is a spectacular double, peony-flowered fringed tulip that is sure to steal the show. The blooms are jam-packed with countless layers of luscious, silky petals in a rich and romantic rose-pink. As if this opulence wasn't enough, each individual petal is edged with a delicate, finely-cut white fringe, giving the entire flower a frosted, fairytale appearance. This stunning combination of a full, peony-like form, a romantic deep pink colour, and intricate texture creates a flower that is a must-have for lovers of unusual and theatrical tulips. Its shorter, sturdy stems make it perfect for locations where its intricate details can be admired up close, such as in pots or at the front of a border.

Where to Plant:

A spectacular and frilly flower, 'Queensland' is a double fringed tulip, producing peony-like blooms of soft pink, with each petal edged in a beautiful, crystalline fringe. The large and heavy flower heads mean it is essential to plant them in a very sheltered position, protected from strong winds and heavy rain which can easily spoil the delicate blooms. It needs a spot in full sun with fertile, very well-drained soil. It is best used as a feature plant in a container or a prime spot in a border where it can be admired.

How to Plant:

The bulbs should be planted late in the autumn, during October or November. It is vital to plant the bulbs deeply to provide maximum support for the heavy flower. Dig a hole at least 15-20cm (6-8 inches) deep, place the bulb in the bottom with its pointed tip facing upwards, and cover with soil. Space the bulbs about 15cm apart to give each magnificent flower room to open without being crowded.

Aftercare:

For the most reliable and successful display, fancy tulips like this are best treated as an annual and replaced with fresh bulbs each autumn. They are not designed to re-flower well in subsequent years. After the amazing flower has faded, you can simply remove the entire plant and bulb and add it to your compost heap, ready to plant fresh ones later in the year for another guaranteed show.
