Our "Bloom or Bust" Promise

The 'Parrot' classification comes from the resemblance of the unopened flower bud to a parrot's beak. The feathered, curly petals only add to the exotic, bird-like appearance.

A truly spectacular and flamboyant tulip, 'Amazing Parrot' lives up to its name with enormous, deeply ruffled and fringed petals. The blooms are a stunning kaleidoscope of colour, opening from soft yellow buds to reveal a rich tapestry of apricot, creamy yellow, and soft rose-pink, all delicately edged with green. Each flower is a unique work of art, with petals that twist and curl in dramatic fashion, creating a sense of movement and exotic beauty. As the blooms mature, the colours intensify, becoming a vibrant spectacle in the late spring garden. Held on strong, tall stems, they make an unforgettable statement in borders and are simply breathtaking as a cut flower, where their intricate form and stunning colour blends can be appreciated up close. Plant them in a sheltered spot to protect the huge flowers from strong winds. They are the epitome of tulip extravagance.

Where to Plant:

This is a truly flamboyant and exotic Parrot tulip, with huge, ruffled and feathered petals in a fiery mix of orange, yellow, and red. Due to the large size of the flower heads, it is essential to plant them in a sheltered position, protected from strong winds and heavy spring rain which can easily damage them. They need a spot in full sun with fertile, very well-drained soil. They are a spectacular choice for a sunny border or for growing as a cut flower, but are less suitable for very exposed sites.

How to Plant:

Tulip bulbs should be planted late in the autumn, ideally in October or November. Planting later helps to reduce the risk of the fungal disease, Tulip Fire. Dig a hole and plant each bulb at a depth of at least twice its own height, which is typically about 15cm (6 inches) deep. Ensure the pointed tip is facing upwards. Space the bulbs about 10-15cm apart to give each magnificent flower enough room to be appreciated.

Aftercare:

For the biggest and best display, Parrot tulips are best treated as annuals, with fresh bulbs being planted each autumn. If you wish to try and save them, you must deadhead the flower as soon as it fades and feed the plant with a high-potassium fertiliser. Allow the foliage to die back and yellow completely before lifting the bulbs, drying them, and storing them somewhere cool and dark until it is time to replant in the autumn.
