Our "Bloom or Bust" Promise

White Giant' is the perfect partner for its purple cousins! Planting it next to a dark variety like 'Ambassador' makes both colours appear even more intense and vibrant.

A true titan of the garden, 'White Giant' brings a breathtaking combination of colossal size and pristine colour. It produces enormous, 8-inch flower heads packed with thousands of tiny, star-shaped, snow-white florets, each with a tiny green eye at its centre. Standing tall and proud on thick, sturdy stems that can reach over 4 feet, these luminous globes act like beacons in the late spring garden, glowing in the evening light. 'White Giant' is perfect for creating a sophisticated and dramatic focal point, or for weaving through deep purple alliums to create a stunning, high-contrast display of light and shadow.

Where to Plant:

To support its huge flower heads and towering stems, a location in full, direct sun is non-negotiable. 'White Giant' is a true statement plant and, like all large alliums, requires fertile and very well-drained soil to protect the bulb from rotting during wet winters. Its immense globes of pure white, star-shaped flowers make it a spectacular focal point for the middle or back of a sunny border. Plant it where it can rise majestically above other lower-growing plants.

How to Plant:

Plant the very large bulbs in the autumn. Deep planting is absolutely crucial to provide stability for the tall stems, so aim for a depth of at least 20cm from the soil surface to the base of the bulb. Ensure the pointed end is facing the sky. Give each plant ample room to develop, spacing the bulbs at least 30-40cm apart. Planting even a small group of three or five will create an unforgettable and dramatic display. Water in well once after planting.

Aftercare:

The broad, strap-like foliage at the base of the plant will begin to look untidy and yellow as the flower comes to its peak. You must allow it to die back completely and naturally, as this process is vital for feeding the bulb for next year's performance. The enormous, dried seed heads are just as impressive as the flowers and create a strong architectural silhouette that lasts for months. It is very drought-tolerant once established.
