Our "Bloom or Bust" Promise

This variety is the all-yellow counterpart to the famous white and yellow 'Sailboat'. Planting them together creates a beautiful, harmonious display of two-tone, windswept flowers.

A wonderfully cheerful and fragrant Jonquilla hybrid, 'Yellow Sailboat' is prized for its prolific nature and graceful form. Each stem carries up to three delicate flowers with bright, lemon-yellow petals that are distinctly swept-back (reflexed), giving them the appearance of sails catching a breeze. The central cup is a matching shade of sunny yellow. The blooms are held on slender stems and possess a sweet fragrance. It's an excellent choice for creating a gentle, naturalistic drift of colour and scent in the garden, looking particularly lovely in borders, pots, and rockeries where it will happily perennialize.

Where to Plant:

This charming Jonquil daffodil produces multiple, sweetly fragrant flowers on each stem. Each flower has bright, clear yellow petals that are gently swept back from the central cup, giving them a windswept, 'sailing boat' appearance. Jonquils thrive in a position that receives full sun and has well-drained soil that can bake during the summer. It is an excellent choice for planting in drifts at the front of a sunny border or for growing in pots and containers on a warm patio where its delightful fragrance can be enjoyed.

How to Plant:

The bulbs should be planted in the autumn, ideally in September or October to give them a long rooting period before winter. Dig a hole and plant each bulb at a depth of about 10-12cm (4-5 inches), with the pointed tip facing upwards. To create a full and satisfying display, they are best planted in generous clumps rather than singly. Space the bulbs about 10cm apart from each other. Water once after planting to settle the soil.

Aftercare:

This is a low-maintenance and reliable daffodil. After the flowers have finished, the most important rule is to allow the fine, grassy foliage to die back naturally for at least six weeks. Do not be tempted to cut it back or tie it up while it is green. This crucial period allows the leaves to photosynthesise and feed the bulb for the following year's display. It will form larger clumps over time in a suitable sunny spot.
