A true garden classic, 'Thalia' is an heirloom Triandrus daffodil that has been beloved since its introduction in 1916. It is cherished for its exceptional elegance and grace. Each stem produces two to four nodding, star-shaped flowers of the purest, snow-white. The petals are beautifully reflexed (swept-back) and have a gentle twist, earning it the nickname "Orchid Narcissus." The flowers possess a wonderful, sweet fragrance. 'Thalia' is an outstandingly reliable perennial that will naturalise with ease, forming ethereal, shimmering drifts of white under trees or in borders. It holds the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit for its timeless beauty and superb garden performance.
Over 100 years old, 'Thalia' is considered one of the finest heritage daffodils still in cultivation and is a direct descendant of the wild species Narcissus triandrus.

Where to Plant:
Often called the Orchid-flowered Daffodil, 'Thalia' is a beautiful and elegant heirloom variety from 1916. It produces two or more graceful, nodding, pure white flowers on each stem, which have a light, sweet fragrance. It is perfect for creating a sophisticated and tranquil look in the garden. It is wonderful for planting in borders, woodland gardens, and containers, and looks particularly lovely planted amongst ferns and other shade-loving plants. It grows well in sun or light, dappled shade in moist but well-drained soil.
How to Plant:
The bulbs should be planted in the autumn for a beautiful display the following spring. Dig a hole and plant each bulb about 12-15cm (5-6 inches) deep, with the pointed end facing the sky. To appreciate their graceful form, they are most effective when planted in groups of five or more, creating a drift of nodding white flowers. Space individual bulbs about 10cm from each other.
Aftercare:
This is a low-maintenance and very reliable perennial daffodil. The most important part of its care is to let the foliage die back naturally for a minimum of six weeks after flowering has finished before you tidy the area. Do not be tempted to cut it back while it is still green, as the leaves are busy feeding the bulb for next year's performance. It will form beautiful, long-lasting clumps.
We partner with elite growers to provide only top-size, professional-grade bulbs. Bigger bulbs mean stronger roots and more spectacular blooms.
