Our "Bloom or Bust" Promise

The "echo" effect is a rare and highly prized trait in daffodils. 'Golden Echo' was a chance seedling discovered in a field of other daffodils in California, proving that sometimes the most beautiful discoveries are happy accidents.

An enchanting and award-winning variety, 'Golden Echo' is a unique Jonquilla daffodil that will capture your heart. Each stem carries one to three beautiful flowers that are wonderfully fragrant. The blooms feature pure white, slightly swept-back petals that provide a clean contrast to the long, elegant, golden-yellow trumpet. The most magical and defining feature is how the rich yellow of the trumpet appears to bleed or "echo" out onto the base of the white petals, creating a stunning, luminous, golden halo right at the flower's heart. This RHS Award-winner is a vigorous and reliable perennial that will happily naturalise, bringing its unique beauty and sweet perfume to the garden for many years.

Where to Plant:

This is a beautiful and elegant Jonquil daffodil, producing up to three sweetly scented flowers on each stem. Each flower has crisp white, swept-back petals and a long, golden-yellow trumpet. Jonquils thrive in a position that receives full sun and has well-drained soil that can bake during the summer months. It is an excellent choice for a sunny rockery, the front of a sheltered border, or for growing in pots on a warm patio where its delightful fragrance can be enjoyed.

How to Plant:

The bulbs should be planted in the autumn, ideally in September or October. As the bulbs are smaller than large trumpet daffodils, a planting depth of about 10-12cm (4-5 inches) is sufficient. Place the bulb in the hole with the pointed tip facing upwards and cover with soil. To create a satisfying clump, space the bulbs about 10cm apart. Water once after planting to help settle the soil.

Aftercare:

After the perfumed flowers have faded, you can snip off the spent flower heads. The most important step for ensuring a good display next year is to allow the fine, rush-like foliage to die back naturally for a minimum of six weeks after flowering. Do not cut it back or tie it up. In a sunny, well-drained position, it will perennialize well and the clumps will multiply over time.
