Our "Bloom or Bust" Promise

The initial greenish-yellow buds contain chlorophyll, which helps the emerging flower spike to photosynthesize. As the florets mature and open, the chlorophyll fades, revealing the pure white colour.

A truly enchanting variety, 'White Magic' brings a touch of pure, bright elegance to the spring garden. This beautiful Grape Hyacinth undergoes a lovely colour transformation; the flower spikes emerge with greenish-yellow buds, which then open into densely packed spires of pristine, snow-white, bell-shaped florets. The pure white colour is very clear and provides a wonderful, cool contrast to more brightly coloured spring bulbs. 'White Magic' is a vigorous grower with a neat habit and a gentle fragrance. It is an excellent choice for creating a serene, sophisticated look and for brightening up shady corners of the garden.

Where to Plant:

A beautiful and elegant variety, 'White Magic' produces cones of flowers that open with a hint of greenish-yellow before maturing to a pure, bright white. It provides a clean and classic look for the spring garden. It is very adaptable and will grow happily in full sun or partial shade, in any ordinary garden soil that doesn't get waterlogged. It is perfect for creating a sophisticated display in containers or for providing a cool contrast to more brightly coloured bulbs in a border.

How to Plant:

For a reliable display next spring, plant the small bulbs during the autumn months. Plant each bulb at a depth of around 10cm (4 inches) with the pointed end facing towards the sky. They have the greatest visual impact when they are planted in large, generous groups. Space the bulbs about 5-8cm apart from each other to create a dense carpet of white.

Aftercare:

Grape Hyacinths are very easy to look after and will reward you with a bigger display each year. Do not be concerned when the green leaves appear in autumn, as this is normal for the plant. Once the flowers have faded in spring, let the foliage die back completely by itself. This is essential for the bulb's health. They will spread to form larger colonies; deadhead the spent flowers if you wish to control this.
