Where to Plant:

Choose a spot in full sun or light, dappled shade with fertile, well-drained soil. Hyacinths are perfect for the front of spring borders, lining pathways, or in patio pots and window boxes where their intoxicating fragrance can be fully appreciated. They are also excellent for forcing indoors for an early splash of spring colour and scent.

How to Plant:

Plant your bulbs from September to December. Dig holes around 15cm deep and place the bulbs 10-15cm apart with the pointed tip facing upwards. For a container display, you can plant them closer together. Always wear gloves when handling hyacinth bulbs as they can cause mild skin irritation.

Aftercare:

Water well after planting and keep the soil moist during dry spells in autumn. Once the flowers have faded, deadhead the stalk but allow the foliage to die back naturally. This process feeds the bulb, storing energy for the following year's display. In containers, reduce watering as the leaves yellow.
