Our "Bloom or Bust" Promise

A living piece of history! This vibrant red hyacinth is an heirloom variety, first winning an award from the Royal Dutch Bulb Growers' Society in 1863.

Ignite your spring garden with the fiery passion of Hyacinth 'Jan Bos'! A true showstopper, this variety boasts incredibly intense, magenta-red flower spikes that command attention. Not only is 'Jan Bos' a feast for the eyes, but its rich, sweet perfume will fill the air, making it a must-have for sensory gardens. Awarded the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, you can be assured of its superb performance. Plant these gems in pots on the patio, along border edges, or in drifts for a spectacular block of colour. They partner beautifully with the cool tones of Muscari armeniacum or pure white tulips for a truly classic spring display.

Where to Plant:

Hyacinths thrive in full sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil. 'Jan Bos' is perfect for the front of borders, lining a pathway, or in containers near a door or window where its intoxicating fragrance can be fully appreciated. It's also an excellent choice for indoor forcing for early winter colour.

How to Plant:

Plant bulbs in autumn, from September to December. Position them 15cm deep and about 10-15cm apart with the pointed end facing up. For container planting, you can place them slightly closer together for a fuller display. Always wear gloves when handling hyacinth bulbs as they can cause mild skin irritation.

Aftercare:

Water well after planting and during dry spells in spring. Once the flowers have faded, snip off the flower stalk but allow the foliage to die back naturally. This process feeds the bulb for the following year's display. In containers, you can move them to a less prominent spot while the foliage senesces.
