Our "Bloom or Bust" Promise

The vibrant yellow pigment in crocuses comes from compounds called carotenoids, the same family of pigments that give carrots their orange colour.

The absolute essence of spring sunshine, 'Golden Yellow' is a large-flowered Dutch Crocus that brings an explosion of pure, brilliant colour to the garden. The flowers are a rich, vibrant, egg-yolk yellow, completely saturated with colour and lacking any other markings. These large, chalice-shaped blooms act like beacons of light at the end of a long winter, glowing with an intensity that can be seen from a great distance. They are robust, vigorous, and reliable, opening wide on sunny days to reveal their golden stigmas and closing up at night or in poor weather. 'Golden Yellow' is perfect for creating bold, cheerful drifts of colour, for planting in blocks at the front of borders, or for filling pots with a dazzling display. Its classic, joyful colour makes it an essential component of any spring garden design, promising warmth and brighter days ahead.

Where to Plant:

For a truly cheerful and vibrant start to spring, the rich, egg-yolk yellow flowers of this crocus are unbeatable. It is a strong grower and ideal for bringing a splash of sunshine to the garden after winter. Plant it in large groups at the front of borders, in rockeries, or in pots. It is especially effective when naturalised in drifts through a lawn. Choose a spot that enjoys full sun, as the flowers will only open fully in the warmth and light. Good drainage is essential.

How to Plant:

Plant the corms in the autumn to ensure a spring display. Dig holes and place each corm 8-10cm (3-4 inches) deep, with the pointed end facing up towards the sky. To create a natural-looking swathe of colour in grass, scatter the corms across the area and plant them where they fall, leaving about 8-10cm between each one. This gives them space to establish and multiply over the years. Water once after planting to settle the soil.

Aftercare:

This crocus is very self-sufficient. The only critical task is to allow the foliage to remain in place after the flowers have gone over. Let the leaves wither and turn yellow naturally, which takes about six weeks. If you have them planted in grass, you must not mow during this period. This is how the corm builds up its food reserves to fuel the next year's flowers. They are fully hardy and will not need any extra water.
