A majestic and world-famous heirloom, 'Mount Hood' is a classic Trumpet daffodil renowned for its large, stately blooms and wonderful colour transformation. When the flowers first open, the entire bloom, including the magnificent, flared trumpet, is a soft, creamy lemon-yellow. Over the course of a few days, it undergoes a magical change, maturing to a pure, immaculate, ivory-white. This two-tone progression provides a long and fascinating season of interest. Standing tall and proud on very strong, upright stems, 'Mount Hood' has been a garden favourite for almost a century, prized for its robust nature, reliability, and its ability to create a truly breathtaking swathe of cool, elegant white in the mid-spring landscape.
Introduced in 1938, 'Mount Hood' is named after the snow-capped volcanic mountain in Oregon, USA. The flower's colour change from creamy yellow to pure white beautifully mimics the mountain's snowy peak.

Where to Plant:
A truly magnificent and classic trumpet daffodil, 'Mount Hood' is one of the very best large, pure white varieties. The flowers open with a hint of creamy-yellow in the trumpet before maturing to a brilliant ivory-white all over. It is a strong, robust, and versatile daffodil, perfect for creating bold, elegant displays in borders or for naturalising in large drifts in lawns and woodland areas. It grows happily in full sun or partial shade in any reasonably fertile, well-drained soil.
How to Plant:
You should plant the large bulbs in the autumn for a glorious spring display. Dig a hole and plant each bulb about 15cm (6 inches) deep, which is roughly twice the height of the bulb itself. Make sure the pointed end is facing the sky. If planting in grass for a natural look, a good method is to scatter the bulbs across the area and then plant them wherever they happen to land. Space them about 10-15cm apart.
Aftercare:
This is a very rewarding daffodil that will form impressive clumps over time. Once the flowers have faded, it is good practice to deadhead them. The most critical task is to let the long, grassy foliage die back on its own for at least six weeks after flowering. Do not cut it back or mow the area during this time, as this is when the leaves are feeding the bulb for next year's spectacular display.
We partner with elite growers to provide only top-size, professional-grade bulbs. Bigger bulbs mean stronger roots and more spectacular blooms.

I ordered the mixed hyacinth collection and the scent in my garden this April was absolutely heavenly. Every single bulb produced a strong, beautiful flower and the colours were stunning together. A fantastic purchase, I'll be back for more next year!
