It has been a garden favourite since its introduction in 1953 and for good reason. The elegantly shaped blooms are a delicate and sophisticated blend of soft salmon-rose, flushed with warm apricot and subtle hints of amber and gold, changing beautifully as the flower ages. It brings a gentle, refined warmth to the early spring garden. As one of the first full-sized tulips to bloom, it is perfect for kicking off the season in style. Its sturdy, shorter stems make it an excellent choice for planting in windswept areas or in pots and window boxes where its delightful scent can be appreciated up close. Where to Plant:

This is a classic and exceptionally beautiful Single Early tulip, prized for its elegant, goblet-shaped flowers in a sublime blend of salmon, apricot, and rose. It also has a delightful, sweet fragrance. It is an excellent choice for borders and is particularly well-suited to growing in pots and containers where its scent and graceful form can be enjoyed up close. For the best results, plant it in a sunny, sheltered position in fertile, well-drained soil.

How to Plant:

Tulip bulbs should always be planted late in the autumn, ideally during October or November. This helps to prevent the fungal disease, Tulip Fire. Dig a hole and plant each bulb at a depth of at least twice its own height, which is typically about 15cm (6 inches). Make sure the pointed tip is facing upwards. Space the bulbs about 10-15cm apart to create a full but not overcrowded display.

Aftercare:

After the flowers have faded, snap off the spent head to stop the plant from putting energy into creating a seed pod. It is essential that you allow the foliage to die back and turn yellow completely before removing it. This process takes about six weeks and feeds the bulb for the following year. In a sunny, well-drained spot, this variety may perennialize and return for a few years.
