Our "Bloom or Bust" Promise

siculum subsp. dioscoridis, often admired for its green-tinged cream with purple markings colouring, is a bulb variety especially well suited to naturalising.

Allium siculum subsp. dioscoridis (often sold as Nectaroscordum) is a wonderfully architectural bulb, sending up tall, upright stems topped with softly nodding, bell-shaped blooms in green-tinged cream, delicately brushed with purple. It brings a note of quiet intrigue to late spring and early summer planting, and has an easy elegance that sits beautifully amongst grasses, geraniums and other naturalistic companions.

Fully hardy and happy to naturalise where conditions suit, it’s an excellent choice for borders and informal gardens, offering height, movement and a refined, slightly curious silhouette. Pollinators are particularly fond of it, and as with many alliums it is generally left alone by deer.

Where to Plant:

Allium 'siculum subsp. dioscoridis' (Bulgarian honey garlic) needs full-sun, partial sun and a warm, sheltered position for the best flowering. Plant into fertile, humus-rich soil that drains well, and choose a spot protected from strong winds, especially for taller varieties.

How to Plant:

Plant bulb from September to December once conditions are suitable. Set them at the correct depth for the variety, spacing 25cm apart where relevant, then firm in gently and water well after planting.

Aftercare:

Water regularly in dry weather and feed every two to three weeks once buds appear. Stake taller stems early and deadhead to keep plants flowering. After flowering, allow foliage to die back naturally before lifting or protecting bulb according to local conditions.
