Many gardeners prize coral peonies for the way their blooms shift in tone as they age, creating more nuance and movement than a single flat flower colour.

Paeonia 'Coral Charm' is a renowned early peony with large semi-double blooms that open rich coral-pink and gradually soften through peachy apricot shades as the flowers mature.

The changing colour gives the plant great garden interest, while the strong stems and substantial blooms make it a favourite for both borders and cutting.

Plant in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun or light shade, setting the eyes just below soil level and avoiding deep planting, which can reduce flowering.

Water while the plant establishes, mulch annually around the crown and allow foliage to die back naturally in autumn for the healthiest long-term clump.

Where to Plant:

Choose a sunny or lightly shaded site with fertile, well-drained soil and good air circulation. Peonies dislike being moved, so select a long-term position where plants can settle and bulk up over time.

How to Plant:

Plant bare roots shallowly with the eyes no more than a few centimetres below the soil surface. Improve the soil with compost before planting and avoid burying the crown too deeply, which can reduce flowering.

Aftercare:

Water during dry spells in the first season and mulch annually around the plant, keeping the crown clear. Support larger blooms if needed, remove spent flowers, and allow foliage to die back naturally in autumn.
