Our "Bloom or Bust" Promise

The name 'Blue Pearl' is a perfect description for this crocus. Its iridescent petals can seem to glow and change colour in different lights, much like the shimmering lustre of a mother-of-pearl.

An exquisite botanical crocus, 'Blue Pearl' is cherished for its delicate beauty and luminous, pearlescent colouring. The flowers are not a strong blue, but rather a magical, soft, silvery sky-blue on the outer petals, which are often shaded with a deeper blue at the base. As the flower opens, it reveals a contrasting creamy-white to soft-yellow interior, with a base that glows a distinct bronzy-yellow. This complex and subtle combination of colours gives the bloom an iridescent quality, especially when it catches the low morning or evening light, making it shimmer like a precious pearl. It is an RHS Award of Garden Merit winner, a testament to its beauty and reliability. 'Blue Pearl' is one of the earliest to flower, and its gentle, glowing presence is a truly enchanting sight after a long winter, perfect for intimate plantings in pots or rockeries.

Where to Plant:

This exquisite, small crocus is perfect for creating a carpet of colour in early spring. It is ideal for naturalising in lawns, at the front of sunny borders, in gravel or rock gardens, and looks wonderful in pots and window boxes. For the best display, choose a spot that receives full sun or the light, dappled shade found under deciduous trees. Well-drained soil is important, as the corms can rot in wet winter ground.

How to Plant:

Plant the corms in the autumn, from September to November. Plant them with the pointed tip facing upwards, at a depth of about 8-10cm, which is roughly three times their own height. For a natural look in borders or lawns, gently scatter a handful of corms and plant them exactly where they land, spacing them at least 8cm apart. Water once after planting to help settle the soil.

Aftercare:

This crocus requires very little attention. The most important rule is to allow the narrow, grassy leaves to die back and turn yellow naturally after the flower has faded. Do not cut them off or tie them up. If they are planted in a lawn, this means you should not mow that area for at least six weeks after flowering. This process allows the plant to store energy in the corm for the following year's display.
