Blue Magic, often admired for its blue with white colouring, is a bulb variety especially well suited to borders.

Muscari aucheri 'Blue Magic' is a most polished little grape hyacinth, sending up densely packed spires of rich blue, each tiny bell neatly finished with a fine white rim. It has a wonderfully composed look—ideal for threading through the front of borders, tucking into pots, or slipping beneath spring perennials and shrubs for a calm, well-dressed understory.

Compact at around 20cm tall, it’s perfectly scaled for small spaces and elegant containers, yet generous when planted in drifts. As a fully hardy perennial bulb, it settles in readily and returns with quiet reliability.

Where to Plant:

Muscari 'Blue Magic' (grape hyacinth) needs full-sun, partial sun and a warm, sheltered position for the best flowering. Plant into fertile, humus-rich soil that drains well, and choose a spot protected from strong winds, especially for taller varieties.

How to Plant:

Plant bulb from September to December once conditions are suitable. Set them at the correct depth for the variety, spacing 8-10cm apart where relevant, then firm in gently and water well after planting.

Aftercare:

Water regularly in dry weather and feed every two to three weeks once buds appear. Stake taller stems early and deadhead to keep plants flowering. After flowering, allow foliage to die back naturally before lifting or protecting bulb according to local conditions.
