Our "Bloom or Bust" Promise

Mixed, often admired for its mixed colouring, is a corm variety especially well suited to pots & containers.

Sparaxis ‘Mixed’ (harlequin flower) is a wonderfully cheerful blend, scattering jewel-toned, funnel-shaped blooms on loose, airy stems above slim, strap-like foliage. It’s a small but spirited performer—particularly smart in pots by the door, or threaded through the front of a sunny border to brighten the garden as spring gathers pace.

  • Colour effect: Mixed, multi-colour flowers for an easy, painterly look
  • Best use: Pots & containers and sheltered borders
  • Seasonal moment: Flowers from April to June
  • Good to know: Half hardy; best in a sheltered position with well-drained soil

Plant en masse for the most refined display—clusters look far more intentional than a scattered few, and the colour mix becomes beautifully balanced at scale.

Where to Plant:

Sparaxis 'Mixed' (Harlequin flower) needs full-sun, partial sun and a warm, sheltered position for the best flowering. Plant into fertile, humus-rich soil that drains well, and choose a spot protected from strong winds, especially for taller varieties.

How to Plant:

Plant corm from September to December once conditions are suitable. Set them at the correct depth for the variety, spacing 10cm apart where relevant, then firm in gently and water well after planting.

Aftercare:

Water regularly in dry weather and feed every two to three weeks once buds appear. Stake taller stems early and deadhead to keep plants flowering. After flowering, allow foliage to die back naturally before lifting or protecting corm according to local conditions.
