Valerie Finnis, often admired for its pale blue colouring, is a bulb variety especially well suited to borders.

Muscari 'Valerie Finnis' is a rather distinguished grape hyacinth, producing dense, pale blue flower spikes from early to mid-spring. It is particularly handsome when planted in generous drifts, allowed to naturalise through grass, or threaded neatly along the front of a border for a calm, tonal effect.

With a tidy, clump-forming habit and fresh green foliage, it suits both classic garden schemes and contemporary planting alike. For the most refined finish, combine with early narcissus, species tulips, or white spring flowers and let the soft blue do the rest.

Where to Plant:

Muscari 'Valerie Finnis' (Grape hyacinth) needs full-sun and a warm, sheltered position for the best flowering. Plant into fertile, humus-rich soil that drains well, and choose a spot protected from strong winds, especially for taller varieties.

How to Plant:

Plant bulb from September to December once conditions are suitable. Set them at the correct depth for the variety, spacing 10cm apart where relevant, then firm in gently and water well after planting.

Aftercare:

Water regularly in dry weather and feed every two to three weeks once buds appear. Stake taller stems early and deadhead to keep plants flowering. After flowering, allow foliage to die back naturally before lifting or protecting bulb according to local conditions.
