Our "Bloom or Bust" Promise

Catweazle' was named after a popular 1970s British TV character, a quirky and disheveled magician who lived in the wild, perfectly matching the plant's appearance.

Embrace the wild and whimsical with Allium 'Hair', a variety that truly lives up to its name. This horticultural curiosity produces small, purple-maroon floral globes from which sprout a frenzy of long, unruly green filaments that look exactly like a crazy head of hair. These thread-like tendrils twist and curl in every direction, creating a playful, tactile, and ever-changing display that invites a closer look. It's the punk rocker of the allium world, perfect for adding a touch of humor and unexpected texture to the front of a border, a container, or a child's garden. As the season progresses, tiny purple flowers may emerge from the base, adding another layer of interest to this wonderfully bizarre and unforgettable plant.

Where to Plant:

Choose a bright location that receives plenty of direct sunlight for most of the day. Allium 'Graceful Beauty' thrives in well-drained soil and will not tolerate sitting in wet ground, particularly during the winter. Its compact stature and elegant white flowers, delicately marked with lavender centres, make it perfect for the front of a sunny border, lining a pathway, or for growing in containers where its subtle charm can be appreciated up close. It pairs beautifully with silver-leaved plants and other low-growing perennials.

How to Plant:

Plant the bulbs in the autumn, from September through to November. Dig holes and place each bulb with its pointed tip facing upwards, at a depth of about 10-15cm, or roughly three times the bulb’s own height. Space them approximately 10-15cm apart to allow enough room for them to develop into attractive clumps. For a sophisticated and full display, plant them in generous groups of ten or more. If planting in pots, use a good quality, loam-based compost mixed with horticultural grit to ensure sharp drainage. Water once after planting.

Aftercare:

These alliums are very self-sufficient once they are established. They are drought-tolerant and will not need regular watering unless there is an unusually prolonged dry spell during the spring growing season. After the flowers have faded, it is essential to allow the foliage to wither and turn yellow naturally. This process is vital as it feeds the bulb for the following year's display. The decorative seed heads can be left on the plant for extended interest or snipped off at the base if you prefer.
