Hyacinth ‘Blue Jacket’ brings a bold splash of rich blue to the spring garden, with sturdy flower spikes packed tightly with starry florets. The blooms are a deep, cobalt blue with slightly paler centres, creating a lovely shimmer of colour that shows up beautifully on dull spring days. Flowering in early to mid spring, these compact hyacinths reach around 20–25cm, making them ideal for the front of borders, edging paths or tucking into small spaces where their intense colour can really shine.
The fragrance is one of the great joys of Hyacinth ‘Blue Jacket’ – a strong, classic hyacinth perfume that’s perfect for planting near doorways, along paths or in patio containers where you’ll pass close by. They are excellent in pots and window boxes, and also work well as indoor bulbs if potted up and brought into a cool, bright spot. The sturdy stems make them suitable for cutting too, so you can enjoy a few in small jugs or vases indoors. Left in well-drained soil, they will often reflower for several years, gradually naturalising into cheerful clumps of blue each spring.
Prepared Hyacinth ‘Blue Jacket’ is specially treated to flower extra-early indoors, filling your home with rich cobalt-blue blooms and classic hyacinth perfume weeks before spring arrives outside.

Where to Plant:
Prepared Hyacinth 'Blue Jacket' is ideal for indoor bowls, pots and decorative containers, placed in a cool, bright spot such as a windowsill, porch or unheated room. To prolong flowering, keep them away from direct heat sources like radiators and open fires, and avoid very strong midday sun, which can shorten the life of the blooms. Once the buds are well formed and starting to show colour, you can move the pots to a warmer room where you’ll most enjoy the fragrance.
How to Plant:
Choose a pot or bowl with drainage holes (or use a watertight outer pot with a drainage layer) and fill with bulb fibre or a free-draining, peat-free compost, leaving room for the bulbs. Sit the hyacinth bulbs on the surface so they are close together but not touching, then top up around them so the top 1–2cm of each bulb is still above the compost. Firm gently and water lightly to settle the compost, then place the pot in a cool, dark place (such as a shed, garage or cool cupboard) for around 8–10 weeks to allow roots to form and shoots to develop to 4–5cm tall before bringing into the light.
Aftercare:
While the bulbs are rooting, keep the compost just barely moist, checking occasionally and watering sparingly if it feels dry. Once you move them into the light, increase watering slightly so the compost stays evenly moist but never waterlogged, and turn the pot every few days to keep the flower spikes growing straight. Cooler room temperatures will help the flowers last longer; remove spent blooms as they fade. After flowering indoors, you can either discard the bulbs or, if you have a garden, plant them out in a sunny, well-drained border where they may re-establish and flower at a more normal spring time in future years, though they are unlikely to perform as strongly indoors again.
We partner with elite growers to provide only top-size, professional-grade bulbs. Bigger bulbs mean stronger roots and more spectacular blooms.

I ordered the mixed hyacinth collection and the scent in my garden this April was absolutely heavenly. Every single bulb produced a strong, beautiful flower and the colours were stunning together. A fantastic purchase, I'll be back for more next year!
